Late Morning Concurrent Session: FEDERAL TAX
Details:
Section 199A
The taxpayer friendly Section 199A deduction available for certain owners or beneficiaries of pass-through entities, is one of the most talked about provisions included in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed in December 2017 . However, it is very complex for tax preparers of both business and individual income tax returns. We will explore who qualifies for this deduction, the limitations, the reporting requirements and ultimately the benefit to business owners, investors, trusts and estates. We will also address the clarifications, planning opportunities, and continued uncertainties included in the recently released Final Regulations including aggregation elections, rental real estate qualifying as a trade or business, companies operating multiple trades or businesses and much more.

Friends of the Chicago River: Bringing the River to Life for 40 Years
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Friends of the Chicago River which was founded in 1979 after Chicago magazine published “Our Friendless River, ” a story that questioned why this amazing natural resource was still so polluted and neglected. Four decades later the Chicago River is alive with people and wildlife, and the river has become one of Chicago’s great assets, home to proposed mega developments, and a new riverfront economy. Join Friends’ executive director, Margaret Frisbie, as she tells the story of the river’s recovery and the role Friends played to transform the river and what still needs to be done.
