Title: The Many Challenges of Complying with State Marketplace Facilitator Rules

Description:

All 45 states with sales taxes, the District of Columbia and Alaska with its local sales taxes have some version of a marketplace facilitator law, which creates major compliance burdens for marketplace facilitators.  Not only do jurisdictions define marketplace facilitators differently, but marketplace sellers and marketplace facilitators face different challenges in trying to comply across multiple jurisdictions. The presenters in this session will address variations in states’ marketplace laws, including how multiple facilitator (tiered) transactions are handled as well as the growing trend of collection requirements expanding to other taxes and fees, some of which are not centrally administered by a state agency.
